How do I create a landlord account?

Click "Register Now" on the homepage and select the Landlord option. You will be asked for your contact information, property details, and to agree to our terms of service. Once registered, your account will be in Pending status until your first subscription payment is processed.

What is the difference between a Landlord account and a Property Management Company account?

Accepted Answer

A Landlord account is designed for individual property owners managing one or a small number of units. A Property Management Company / Residential Community account is for organizations managing multiple properties or large residential communities. Both account types can list properties and accept vouchers, but the agency account includes additional fields for company information and multi-property management.

How long does it take for my account to become active?

Accepted Answer

Landlord and agent accounts become active as soon as your first subscription payment is confirmed, which is typically immediate. Government and agency accounts require a 2–3 business day credential review before activation. You will receive an email notification once your account status changes.

Can I list properties before my account is fully active?

Accepted Answer

You can begin drafting listings right away, but they will not be visible to renters until your account reaches Active status. Once active, all saved drafts can be published immediately.

How many properties can I list?

Accepted Answer

There is no hard cap on the number of listings for active accounts. You can list as many properties as you manage. Each listing supports up to 25 photo categories with drag-and-drop uploads, a virtual tour toggle, and detailed amenity information.

How do I add photos to my listing?

Accepted Answer

During the listing creation process, the Photo Upload step lets you upload images organized by room category (living room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, exterior, and more). You can drag and drop images, reorder them, and preview them in a lightbox. Up to 25 room categories are supported per listing.

Can I save a listing as a draft and finish it later?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The listing form auto-saves your progress to your browser as you go. You can close the page and return later to pick up where you left off. Your draft is stored locally until you submit the listing.

How do I remove or deactivate a listing?

Accepted Answer

From your landlord dashboard, navigate to your active listings and select the listing you want to manage. You can set its status to Inactive to hide it from search results without permanently deleting it, or remove it entirely. Inactive listings can be reactivated at any time.

What property types are supported?

HomeZweetHome supports 14 property types including single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, apartments, condos, townhouses, mobile homes, manufactured homes, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), basement units, studio apartments, lofts, co-living spaces, and residential communities.

What is a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV)?

A Housing Choice Voucher (also called Section 8) is a federal rental assistance program administered by local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs). Eligible tenants receive a voucher that covers a portion of their rent, with the tenant paying the difference. As a landlord, you receive the tenant’s portion directly and the PHA pays the subsidy portion directly to you.

How do I indicate that my property accepts vouchers?

During listing creation, there is a dedicated Voucher Programs section where you can check which programs your property participates in. You can select from 24 voucher programs filtered by your property’s location, including HCV/Section 8, VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing), Emergency Housing Vouchers, and local programs.

What is VASH and how does it work?

VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing) is a joint program between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It combines HCV rental assistance with VA supportive services for eligible homeless veterans. Landlords who accept VASH vouchers are matched with veteran tenants who have case management support from the VA.

Are there any requirements to accept vouchers?

To accept Housing Choice Vouchers, your property must pass a Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspection conducted by the local PHA. The rent must also be at or below the PHA’s payment standard for the area. HomeZweetHome can connect you with your local PHA to begin the inspection process.

How does the tenant matching system work?

Accepted Answer

Our matching algorithm calculates a compatibility score (0–100) between each renter profile and your listing based on location, bedroom count, rent range, pet policy, voucher acceptance, veteran status, and family size. Higher scores indicate a stronger fit. Our admin team reviews top matches and facilitates introductions.

Will I be notified when a renter is interested in my property?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When a renter expresses interest in one of your listings, you will receive a notification. If your account is in Active status, you will receive the renter’s contact details. If your account is in Pending status (balance due), you will receive an interest notice but contact details will not be shared until your balance is resolved.

Can I decline a match?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You are never obligated to proceed with a match. You can review the compatibility score and renter profile summary and decline if the fit is not right. All housing decisions must comply with the Fair Housing Act and applicable local laws.

What are the subscription plans for landlords?

Accepted Answer

Landlord accounts are available at $8.99 per month or $25 for a 3-month bundle (saving approximately 7%). Both plans include unlimited listings, access to the voucher matching system, and renter interest notifications. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from your account settings.

What does Pending account status mean for my listings?

Accepted Answer

Pending status means there is a balance due on your account. Your existing listings remain visible to renters during this time. However, you cannot add new listings, and renter contact details will not be shared with you until your balance is resolved. You will still receive interest notices so you know renters are viewing your properties.

Question 19

What happens if my account becomes Inactive?

Accepted Answer

If your account is set to Inactive, all of your listings are immediately hidden from search results and property detail pages. Renters will not be able to find or view your properties. To reactivate your account and restore your listings, please contact our support team.

Question 20

How do I update my payment method?

Accepted Answer

Payment is processed securely through Stripe. To update your payment method, visit the Plans page and select your subscription. You will be redirected to a secure Stripe-hosted page where you can update your card information. HomeZweetHome never stores your card details directly.

Question 21

How does the government agency credential review work?

Accepted Answer

When you register as a Government / Housing Agency, our team reviews your submitted credentials within 2–3 business days. We verify your agency’s EIN, official contact information, and program participation (such as VASH or Emergency Housing Vouchers). You will receive an email once your credentials are approved and your account is activated.

Is there a cost for government agency accounts?

Accepted Answer

No. Government and housing agency accounts are completely free on HomeZweetHome. We believe that removing cost barriers for public agencies helps more families find stable housing.

Can a housing agency refer clients to landlords on the platform?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Agency accounts can search the property database, filter by voucher acceptance and veteran-friendly listings, and facilitate matches between their clients and participating landlords. The matching dashboard gives agencies visibility into compatibility scores and match status.

Question 24

What information is required during agency registration?

Accepted Answer

Agency registration requires your organization’s legal name, EIN (Employer Identification Number), primary contact name, phone, email, service area (state, city, county, zip), and the voucher programs your agency administers. You will also need to agree to our terms of service and complete the vendor services opt-in if applicable.
